The Southern Region was created on July 1, 1992, as a result of the merger of the South Central and Southeast Regions of the Boy Scouts of America. At its inception, there were 107 local Boy Scout councils located in our 13 states, with territory in 14 states. Other birth statistics included 1,164,173 youth members, 270,794 volunteers and 1,025 professional staff. The headquarters for the new region was located in Kennesaw, Georgia, in the offices that had housed the former Southeast Region. Click here for directions.

The regional office supports councils in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana,Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennesee, Texas, and Virginia. Changes in council alignment have reduced the number of councils to 93. Those councils, 14 years later, on June 30, 2006, served 1,131,752 youth members.
